How to Prep for a Seamless Pet Sitting Experience

As summer travel plans start to fill the calendar, many pet parents turn to professional in-home pet sitters to care for their furry family members. While it’s our job to make sure your pets are safe, loved, and well cared for while you're away, a little prep on your end can go a long way in making the entire experience smooth and stress-free—for everyone involved.
Here are some simple steps you can take to help your pet sitters do their best work and ensure your pets get the top-notch care they deserve:
1. Make Sure Your Time To Pet Account Is Up to Date
Before you head out of town, double-check that your Time To Pet profile is fully updated. This includes:
Feeding instructions
Medication details
Updated emergency contacts
Notes about routines, quirks, or behavioral changesThis is the information your sitter relies on during every visit—so the more accurate and detailed it is, the better we can care for your pets.
2. Provide Two Reliable Points of Entry
Having two ways to access your home (such as a key and a code, or a lockbox and garage keypad) ensures your sitter can always get in—even if there’s a power outage, battery issue, or tech hiccup. It’s one of the simplest ways to avoid a last-minute emergency.
3. List a Local Emergency Contact
We always hope nothing goes wrong—but if something unexpected happens (such as a hurricane), it’s vital that we have a local emergency contact (such as a neighbor) who can step in if needed. Make sure this person knows they’re listed and can be reached during your trip.
4. Stock Up on Pet Supplies
Please make sure you have enough food, litter, medication, and any other essentials your pets may need while you’re away. Having everything on hand helps your sitter stay focused on giving your pets great care.
5. Confirm Your Pet is Healthy and Vet-Ready
If your pet hasn’t had a recent check-up, it’s a good idea to schedule one before your trip—especially if they’re on medication or have any health concerns. Make sure vaccinations are up to date and your pet is cleared by your vet to ensure a smooth and safe staycation at home.
6. Make Supplies Easy to Find (and Leave Out a Towel!)
Help us help your pets by keeping key items easy to locate. Leashes, harnesses, food, medications, and cleaning supplies should be placed in clear, accessible areas or labeled with sticky notes if tucked away. During our rainy season, it’s also super helpful to leave a towel by the door so we can dry off your pup after wet walks—keeping your floors (and your pet) cleaner and more comfortable!
7. Book Early—Especially for Holidays & Summer Travel
Pet sitting requests fill up fast during peak travel seasons. Booking early ensures we can get your dates booked in advance, giving you the peace of mind to enjoy your time away.

By following these tips, you're setting both your pets and our team up for a smooth, safe, and stress-free experience. At Pet Care for the Palm Beaches, we’re proud to care for your pets like they’re our own—and when everything is prepped and in place, it helps us do just that.
